Abstract

Background and Objective: Hemodynamic change control is an important part of any surgical procedure to reduce the risk of bleeding, improve visualization, and reduce the risk of postoperative fluid accumulations. The aim of this study was investigation of effects of clonidine as premedication on intraoperative Hemodynamic changes and Blood loss in treatment of mandibular fracture by open reduction and internal fixation. Subjects and Methods: In this cross-sectional study 86 patients were studied. The patients that were treated with open reduction and internal fixation were divided into case (received 0.1 mg clonidine) and control (received placebo). The blood pressure ,pulse rate ,mean arterial pressure, and drugs use(Morphine, Fentanyl, Remifentanil) ,blood loss and time of operation were compared in case and control groups . The results were analyzed with the use of Variance with repeating measurement. Results: In the case group the systolic blood pressure , diastolic blood pressure, mean arterial pressure ,pulse rate and blood loss (110,74,80,72,26.74) had reduced compared to the control group (122,79,84,91,36.16)significantly(P<0.001). Also in case group the time of operation was significantly reduced (P<0.001).
